The Trabant logo had an abstract symbol suggesting a diagonally arranged letter “S” or a twisting road. The logo was inspired by the Soviet spacecraft Sputnik, which orbited the Earth in 1957—the same year the first Trabant was sold.
The Trabant is an automobile model with a unique position in automotive history, notably in East Germany (previously known as the German Democratic Republic or GDR). The Trabant, sometimes known as the “Trabi,” was one of the most famous automobiles in the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War era. It was built by the East German automaker VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau.
