Iowa State is a public research university in Ames, Iowa. It was the first land-grant institution in the United States, founded in 1858. The cardinal bird mascot represents the university’s sporting teams’ power, tenacity, and passion. The university’s logo is a circle with the university’s wordmark in large letters and “Science with Practice” in smaller characters in the center alignment.
