South Sudan flag consists of three horizontal stripes of black, red, and green from top to bottom. A blue triangle with a five-pointed yellow star extends from the hoist of the flag.
The black stripe represents the people, the red the blood spent in the fight for freedom, and the green the country's natural resources. The white lines that run between the stripes represent peace and unity. When South Sudan attained independence on July 9, 2011, it adopted this flag.
