Oman flag is composed of three horizontal bands of white, green, and red, with a vertical red band on the left (hoist) side containing the Oman National Emblem in white. A sheathed Khanjar (a classic curved dagger) and belt are overlaid on two crossed swords in the National Emblem. The white band signifies the Omani people's belief in peace. The red band depicts the wars fought by Omanis to oust foreign invaders from the country. The green band reflects the land's fertility and vegetation. The flag was approved by Royal Decree on December 17, 1970, and was modified on May 22, 2004.
