Nevada flag has a deep blue field with a design in the upper left corner. The design includes a silver star and two sprays of sagebrush, Nevada's official state flower. During the Civil War, Nevada became the 36th state to join the Union on October 31, 1864. The flag was formally introduced in March 1929, however it went through a few changes in the years thereafter to standardize the design. The sagebrush sprays were enhanced, and the word "Nevada" was placed in gold letters beneath the star.
