Afghanistan flag has three vertical stripes of black, red, and green. The Afghan national emblem is in the center of the red stripe, with a mosque with a pulpit and flags on either side, and below it are Eastern Arabic numerals representing the solar year 1298, the year of Afghan independence from the UK. The black stripe depicts Afghanistan's dark past, the red stripe represents the blood shed for freedom, and the green stripe signifies hope for a bright future. On August 19, 2013, the current flag was formally adopted.
